Exit Through Gift Shop

In the art documentary movie Exit Through Gift Shop, there is a tale of series of arts created by Banksy. Thierry Guetta is an immigrant from France that moved in the 1990’s. He was a typical guy who carried his video camera everywhere he goes. It’s like a drug or accessory to him. He then met Space Invader later, a meeting that will change Guetta’s life forever.  Space Invader is in fact an innovator of street art. He recreates characters or cartoon, or animated things such as Mickey or Power Puff Girls in stickers and stuck it in places like graffiti. He also sculpts them with material, or in giant postures. He is believed in the film to be the biggest new movement of art since punk, which is why Guetta wanted to project a movie with him too, then Banksy.

As for Banksy, he is a talented artist who first started off as a writer. In his 40’s he turned to be this internationally recognize, and unidentifiable artist who makes controversial art, in the streets. His art talks about politics, and reflect life with its perfection and imperfection. He is mostly active at night where he can produce a piece just by standing on his bike. His night operation is run by him, with the help of nobody sometime. He is the naughty boy who creates wonderful arts behind the scene. He is a revolutionary that he vandalizes statue and parks openly. His rebellious art has also humor and irony to it as he transform some sacred portrait of Virgin Mary, with her wearing a mask. Additionally, he has done things like nobody has done before when he takes the initiative to in art museums and stick his personally pieces in between spaces on the wall.
I personally think Banksy was not the man feature in the film with a covered face, and yes he is definitely a man. Welp, I’m not sure. Although it could be a woman, it takes man boldness to go print the arts they do in public places at night.
The two artworks that captivated by attention by him is the Orange and White road cone that he transforms to some sort of porcupines and put it in the middle of the road is fascinating and different as he may be passing a message of safe driving;

or the Salami sausage that was display in the New York Café show. The salami was slice half way through. The unsliced halt had a cord at the end part that was moving up and down. It is fascinating and might be a strong message of advocacy of animal killings.

Banksy accepted Guetta,s documentary Exit Through Gift Shop and he said the content of it might be more interesting than him as he believed in Guetta’s talent to come out with some interesting outcome. Street art have a short life span compared to others in museums or legally recognized one as they can have 100 years of validity by the public. Banksy conditions were to let only his hands be seen in the film. When the project finally came out his opinions was that Guetta is “maybe someone with a mental problem who happens to have a camera. The scenes are an hour and a half long of unwatchable trailers.” To Banksy the movie has no real art in it.

                                                          HIRSCHHORN MUSEUM

The Age of Enlightenment---Antoine Lavoisier
This art caught my immediate intention due to many elements in one piece of art. The scientist, and colonist is wearing a colorful African print shirt to reflect the colonization of some West African countries by European, the man had no head, and was sitting
on a wheel chair holding an ink pen. Along on the table were a compass, mirror, and interesting items that made the whole art a good looking depiction of historical event.

Display Stand with Madonnas, (1987-1989)
This art piece in aluminum I believe depicted the Virgin Mary duplication in dozen and dozen to create a tall tour of her in prayer posture. The gigantic art is painted in bright yellow, and has fine smooth feel to it. It captures my intention
because of its beauty, uniqueness, and spiritual piece. Any religious person is likely to adore it as you can place it inside any corner of the house.

Pretty Discreet, 2004
This bridge looking wood wall is an impressive art with a Big muscular John Stud action figure climbing the wall of the
art. It was a 1/5 side painted in pink and the rest in bright yellow wood hue. It is a fun art work that I can see myself put in my dining room or somewhere in a house to give an entire room an incredible fun and arty feel. It’s unique and pure art work.

Culture and Media in Art
The art works displayed at the Hirschhorn is a depiction of our culture in a way that the artists get inspired and influence by the world around them. Whether it’s in a personal level, political, or cultural, their work is drawn from a side effect of what affects them directly or indirectly. Through their work are usually ways to express philosophically how they feel, or see the world; the artist use the media as a platform to be the voice of the voiceless in a society. It could convey positive, negative, or revolutionary message. The Age of Enlightenment by Antoine Lavoisier does a great good to come across its point. It shows that the explorer, who is most generally a westerner, once lived in African soil, which they lived on for about a time, to explore and find out the wealth and prepare master plan on how to colonize those people, and strip all of their wealth. The wheel chair may have to do with the uncertainty, and risk those explorers took when they were adventurous to invade in news land. In most cases it was never easy as they could be killed or attacked, so they were taking huge risk as a kid walking under old mines ground where a war explosive can blow any given time.

Gift Shop
The gift shop has some an incredible sale among which was fine jewelry by different entrepreneurs. The sets were real awesome and fun jewelry made out plastic, zinc, or wood material. They had beautiful bag pack, T-Shirts for kids, women, and men with the same logo on them that were also imprinted in the gigantic walls on the entrance floor. The shop sold books of artist on how to understand some particular arts, gummy huge key holders, fun sunglasses, coffee mugs in camera shapes. Few of the thing I would definitely change is to have a room to sell fine miniature sculpture statuses because even though today arts comes in several shape and form, however, when you here about art, the first thing that comes to mind is either painting, or some sort of wood sculpted statue, and the gift shop did not carry none of that. Another suggestion I have is to add mud clay to their gift shop. As an art center you may want to sell those items to not only make profit, but also urge visitors to create their own little art as they take seats in resting areas while still at the museum, or once they get home.

Fairy Tale (Telling Stories)

The Young Slave

The Young Slave is a fairy tale that was written by the great Italian author Giambattista Basile in 1634, so the story is over 350 years old. The social context of the tale occurred in a family of rather noble ranked people who had respect, and a mansion full of housekeepers. The narrative of the story included a Baron, his baroness, the baron’s sister (Cilia), and the main focus, which will be the daughter she procreated by swallowing a petal of rose. One day, Cilia was playing with her friends by trying to jump up over a huge bouquet of rose without a single leaf falling off. Whoever was able achieve that would win, and Cilia by chance was able to jump over, but unfortunately one leaf fell, but she slickly swallowed the leaf to become the winner, but little did she know it was the beginning of a misadventure.

Cilia got pregnant by the act of swallowing a rose, and could not wrap her head around how to explain this phenomenon to anybody, or being accepted with the child in her social environment where she would be regarded as a disgrace. She was able to hide her state till the day she gave birth to a little girl named Lisa. She brought Lisa to the fairies with whom she played the game and told them the truth, and ask their help to give her a charm and raise her for her. The last fairy in a hurry to see Lisa’s face twisted her foot, and in grave pain cursed Lisa to die at the age of seven as her mother will be combing her hair. Curse at those times were granted without doubt. That’s how Lisa died as cursed; her mother kept her in seven crystal coffins as to save her spirit, having hope she will be saved from the doom one day.

An implied social myth is that in a way or the other Lisa will be given justice to live a happy life from the way events happened, she has not asked to be born, and did not do a warn to nobody, therefore God must save and serve justice for innocents here or in the afterlife.

Another social theme implied is that jealousy, and meanness combine for the sake of degrading a person by using your social class can take a bad turn. What goes around comes back around. The baroness inflicted emotional and physical pain in Lisa, eventually the truth surfaced, and it cost her, her marriage.
The baron did see something intriguing in Lisa’s case specially after he gave her the gift she asked from him, which will lead him to find out what Lisa went through with his wife, and overthrown her misery life into a happy one.
Re-telling the Fairy Tale
In the grandiose garden of a peaceful running fountain, peacocks showing of their wings, and woman breast feeding while cooking in the Kingdom of a rich Indian palace named Arjun, were playing Ashan and her friends as they do every afternoon before dusk. Ashan, a joyous and confident girl, won’t miss an opportunity to be a winner among her friends. She was envied by all of her friends in a good way; however, Ira, the villain friend planned to trap her in a game. Ashan, a typical five feet tall, was among the shortest girls of the group.

Ira decided that whoever could jump of the little river without falling would win the game they played that day. Knowing Ashan has a competitive mind, she put some rusty pointy pins and cursed the pin to cut her so she could bleed to death, otherwise become a handicapped for the rest of her life.

The first two friends jumped over successfully, but arriving Ira’s turn she got trapped in her own wickedness. Ahsan was able to get help from her brother’s servant in the palace to rush Ira to the care center. She ended up being handicapped for the rest of her life. All of her friends got married, and became mothers’.

Ira’s got pregnant by a black slave of the city who denied the fatherhood, and led Ira to be an outcast until before she died. By then, she had written a letter to Ashan, telling her about the misfortune that she originally initiated for her.

Ashan wanting to meet her and tell her how she forgives her, but she came to find out she had died. Ashan always with a good heart adopted Ira’s child, and raised her to be successful.
The moral of the story is that we should always be good at heart, in our action, and we may face trials, and tribulation in life, but God shall always have our backs.

Superbowl Car Ads

Mini Ad, #DefyLabels

Mini 2016 super bowl advertisement is a strong message that the company wishes to deliver to the public to stop stereotyping, but instead look into what the car is really about. They have attached to it slogan hash tag #DefyLabels. Serena Williams appear in the first shot to talk about her personal story on how some people labeled her in positive and negative ways, and how those critics, and showing her confidence is what counts really She is a Chick. Another American soccer-goalie great Abby Wambach, portrays how strong and good looking the car is as her in my opinion, and there was a little girl who depict how Mini can be cute, strong, and powerful as a brand.

The Mini agency here wants to sell their car by showing consumer to cut the visual stereotype, and see the cars for its real value. They did that by incorporating story telling of reputable people with real experience, and then have them give their honest opinion on the car, while with each person they showed different style, and great designs of the car. Mini has larger, and quality cars too as depicted by car racers seen in the ad.
The big idea and S.T.A.R moment is that Mini cars has been competing and remain successful in the car industry. Reputable and regular people love the brand personally due to the cars design, capabilities, or whatever. At the end, they telling you how versatile it is because it suits everyone, so take it or leave it if you do not want to think about getting the best car out there.

Space Babies 2014 Kia Sorento - Super Bowl 2013

The Kia Sorento 2014 super bowl advertisement was a unique, but clever one that is trying to sell their new model cars to an international, diverse audience. There is a long shot where you sell a White and Black babies to pass a message to parents that all baby colors fits in, and will enjoy the ride. There is a close up shot on the dad’s face that portrays cleverness, and professionalism with his classes and dress code. The shots of the planet spaceships going fast depict speed capabilities, and animals featuring tell that pets are accommodated for a safe ride too.

The advertiser chose the spaceship images to tell us the speed performance of the car, and how the destination or brakes can be controlled easily once arrived at the destination (when the 9 months comes they know exactly where to land). Showing images in the African land, and the ocean show the extended possible market the car could be sold and run smoothly in. it has an international market.
What I would change to appeal to the teenage audience, which is an important one, could be the dad, or mother plug their phone, or other trendy music devices to play a nice music via Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi at the end instead of showing the music board playing a toddler theme song because we all know already that most cars have stereo features for little kid to watch during rides.
